“We want kids to have a really good time, and have the opportunity to learn what goes on at working farms,” said Wayne Woodard, director of Sunny Valley Preserve. “Open Farm Day is our way of thanking our community.”
Sunny Valley, which is part of the Connecticut holdings of the Nature Conservancy, is home to five different farms in Bridgewater and New Milford. They range from a farm that sells raw milk to a large haying operation to one of the state’s biggest Community Supported Agriculture programs.
One farm is the first grass-fed beef operation in Connecticut to be Certified Grassfed by A Greener World, and Certified Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World.
Sunny Valley comprises open spaces where birds, deer and rabbits can be seen and a network of walking and cross-country skiing trails that are open to the public from dawn to dusk.
