To the Editor:

New Milford has a community treasure many know little or nothing about -- the dining services at New Milford Hospital, namely the cafeteria.

Not only does it serve its staff and patients the freshest, most delicious food in town by way of its own composting and garden -- aka Plow to Plate -- it's inexpensive and open to the public.

As if that weren't enough, they are consummate professionals with a social conscience.

Led by manager Kerry Gold, they have become a major contributor of food scraps to Windingbrook Farm, New Milford's first nonprofit hoseback riding academy for citizens of all ages with special needs.

Thanks to Kerry's team and their tireless efforts, the farm saves on feed to invest in barns and fencing, thus moving up the date of its grand opening.

Everyone on the team, happily, makes an immeasureable contribution to our beautiful town and leaves it a better place to live.
