The John J. McCarthy Observatory in New Milford will hold its next Second Saturday Stars program, a children’s event, Oct. 14 from 7 to 9 p.m.

The program, “Lights On, Stars Gone, will be held at the observatory located behind New Milford High School on Route 7 South.

Light pollution is a modern problem that affects almost all living things on Earth.

The complex issue that involves multiple branches of science will be explored.

Guests will use an astronomy sketching journal, provided for free at the program, to make observations of the effects of light pollution at various locations.
