Nominations for 'Salute to Seniors' sought
Updated 9:01 pm, Wednesday, January 15, 2014
Nominations are being accepted for the Salute to Seniors Program.
Sponsored by Home Instead Senior Care, the program recognizes the invaluable contributions of adults 65 and older who give at least 15 hours a month of volunteer service to their favorite causes.
State winners will be determined by popular vote.
A panel of senior-care experts will then select a national Salute to Senior Service winner from among the state honorees.
Home Instead Inc. will donate $500 to each of the state winners' designated and approved nonprofit organizations, and their personal stories will be shared online on the Salute to Senior Service Wall of Fame.
In addition, $5,000 will be donated to the national winner's designated and approved nonprofit charity.
"Seniors have so much to give and make a positive impact on our communities daily," said Sharon Massafra, owner of the Home Instead Senior Care office in Northern Fairfield, Southern Litchfield and Northwest New Haven counties.
"Senior volunteerism not only benefits others, but also helps seniors stay active and socially engaged in their communities -- important elements of healthy aging," she said.
Nominations and votes will be accepted through March 1 at www.SalutetoSeniorService.com. For more information, visit the website.
Completed nomination forms can also be mailed to Salute to Senior Service, P.O. Box 285, Bellevue NE 68005.
