New Year's Day concert scheduled

Washington Friends of Music will hold its sixth annual New Year’s Day concert and party with the New Baroque Soloists Jan. 1 at 4 p.m.

The concert will take place at the historic meetinghouse on the Washington Green.

The 11-member chamber orchestra will perform a celebratory program, which includes excerpts from Bach’s “Third Brandenburg Concerto,” Vivaldi’s “Serenissima” and Handel’s “Fireworks.”

Most of the pieces are arranged by Douglas Myers, the artistic director, who also plays trumpet and horn.

Solo pieces will be performed by violist Vincent Lionti and cellist Samuel Magill, both members of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, as well as by oboist Lillian Copeland and organist Jacob Street.

A party with the musicians will follow the concert.

The group is performing throughout the year in Washington, at the Hollister House Garden Summer Solstice Concert in June and the Summer Concert Festival at the meetinghouse in July and August.

Tickets, which include the concert and the party, are $30 in advance, $35 at the door, $15 for students and free for children.

They can be purchased at and at the Hickory Stick Bookshop, 2 Green Hill Road.
