The Washington Friends of Music 2017 New Year’s Day concert with The New Baroque Soloists, above, drew a record crowd at the Historic Meeting House in Washington. The concert was dedicated in memory of the late Benedict Silverman, avid supporter of the concerts. Douglas Myers directed the 10 musicians, who performed a variety of baroque compositions by Bach, Handel, Quantz and Zipoli. A Beethoven duet for Viola and cello was sprinkled in, performed by Vincent Lionti and Samuel Magill, both with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. The Bach organ solo by Jonathan Ryan was another highlight. The New Baroque Soloists will be back for the Summer Solstice Concert June 18 at 5 p.m. at the Hollister House Garden in Washington and for the Washington Friends of Music Summer Concert Festival July 21 through Aug. 11 at the meetinghouse.
