NEW MILFORD — Residents, first responders and small businesses could get some extra help with a new fund set up to distribute donations during the coronavirus pandemic.

The new Sustainability Fund will help provide financial assistance to first responders and small businesses, alleviate food insecurity and provide personal protective equipment.

Town Councilman Chris Cosgrove, who will be the main contact for the fund, said he hopes it will help community members who might have fallen through the cracks.

“This pandemic and lockdown came upon us all so quickly it blindsided most everyone,” he said. “We know that support coming from Washington or Hartford doesn’t take care of everyone in our town.”

New Milford residents, business owners of first responders in need can contact the mayor’s office or Cosgrove at or 585-415-8506. Cosgrove will compile the requests and bring them to Bass and the town council for approval.

People can mail checks made out to the Town of New Milford to the Mayor’s Office, at 10 Main St. New Milford, CT 06776. “Sustainability Fund” should be marked in the memo line. Donations can also be made on the town’s website under the Community page tab.
