New Milford baseball looks to contend again
After being one of the best teams in the SouthWest Conference and one of the top seeds in the state last season, the New Milford baseball team is entering the 2018 campaign with big goals.
The Green Wave went 17-6 overall last season, including a record of 16-4 in the regular season. The regular season included an eight-game winning streak to open the year.
New Milford earned the No. 4 seed in the CIAC Class LL Tournament and started the tournament with a 6-5 victory over Glastonbury before falling to Danbury in the second round.
“We are looking to rebound this year and make a run at the SWC championship and Class LL championship,” New Milford coach Ryan Johnson said. “It is a different season with some different faces but the goal is always the same.”
Key returning players include Derek Profita, Colin Lindner, Tim Ciancolo, Kyle Fabich, Zach Prahach, Chris Gesualdi and Austin Swanson.
“We have a senior led team with some newcomers looking to make some noise,” the coach said.
According to Johnson, this season’s squad will be led by a strong pitching staff and will be looking to continue its recent run of success.
“Our team is looking to continue on the last two years success and cement itself as one of the premier high school teams in the area and the state,” Johnson said.
New Milford opens the season with a road game at New Canaan on Saturday. The Green Wave take on another FCIAC school, Ridgefield, on the road on April 3 before their home opener against SWC foe Immaculate on April 5.
