Registration is underway for many programs offered by the New Milford Parks & Recreation Department.

The spring/summer brochure is available at the Parks & Rec office at 47 Bridge St. Hours are weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Spring soccer

Weekly soccer sessions for youths aged 4 to 6th grade will meet Saturdays starting April 2 on the fields behind Sarah Noble Intermediate School. Cost will be $30 for new players and $25 for returning players not needing shirts. Cost after March 18 would be $40.


Classes for Little Yogis for ages 3-5 will meet Mondays from 9 to 9:45 a.m. from March 21 to May 23 at the Parks & Recreation office at the cost of $60.

Teen dodgeball

Free, open sessions for area high school students meet Tuesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. from April 26 to May 31 at Pettibone School, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Greater New Milford and MVP-SOS.

Hands-on puppetry

Youths in grades 2-6 will create puppet skis April 2, 9 and 16 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Parks & Rec office at the cost of 30.

Kids' self-defense/

mixed martial arts

Youths in grades 1-5 are eligible for classes meeting Mondays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. from April 4 to June 13 at the Parks & Rec office at the cost of $80.

Spring lacrosse

Youths aged 8-12 are eligible for spring break sessions meeting April 18-21 from 9 a.m. to noon at the back fields behind Sarah Noble School at the cost of $100.

Red Cross babysitting

Youths aged 11-14 may learn babysitting skills in an American Red Cross program meeting March 25 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Parks & Rec office. Cost will be $55.


Boating safety

DEP boating and watercraft safety classes hosted by the state DEP will be offered April 4, 6, 11 and 13 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at New Milford High School. Participants must attend all classes at the cost of $20.

Boat slips

Registration for the 2011 season at Lynn Deming Park will be offered until all slips are sold at New Milford Parks & Recreation at 47 Bridge Street. Cost is $1,200, or $1,155 for those aged 65 and older Applicants must be New Milford taxpayers.

Lifeguard training

Classes to receive American Red Cross lifeguard certificatin will meet during schools' April spring break at the Shepaug Valley Middle-High School pool at the cost of $250.

Swim lessons

Lessons will be given Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from June 27 to July 14 during the afternoon at Lynn Deming Park at the cost of $50 and in the evening at the New Milford Sports Club at the cost of $80.

Yankees baseball

A July 8 bus trip to The Bronx, N.Y. to see the New York Yankees play the Tampa Bay Rays at Yankee Stadium will depart the Patriots' Way parking lot at 4 p.m. and return after the game. Cost of $70 will include transportation and ticket.



Classes for beginners and advanced beginners meet Wednesdays from 6 to 7 or 7 to 8 p.m. from April 6 to June 8 to 8 p.m. at the Parks & Recreation office at the cost of $80. Participants must provide fencing jackets and gloves; practice masks and foils are optional.

Men's 35 & older basketball

Open sessions for men aged 35 and older meet Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. until May under supervision of Bill Granata and Bill Buckbee at Schaghticoke Middle School. Cost is $5 per session.
