New Milford McCarthy Observatory hosting free star party Saturday

NEW MILFORD — The New Milford McCarthy Observatory is opening with a free party for its July Second Saturday Stars.

For more than a year, the dome at the Observatory has been shuttered. That will all change on July 10, when, weather permitting, the Observatory will be hosting a free star party - and everyone is invited.

Starting around 9 p.m., guests will have the opportunity to look through several telescopes - light buckets of different designs, sizes and eras. One of the Observatory’s showpieces, according to an announcement, is an English refractor that dates back to the mid-1800s and the reign of Queen Victoria.

The Observatory’s all-volunteer staff will be on hand to answer questions. Those who are unvaccinated are asked to abide by Connecticut’s protocol.
