NEW MILFORD —The VFW New Milford Post 1672 and Auxiliary have announced the local winners in the National Annual Essay contest open to American high school and junior high school students throughout the world.

High school recorded entry theme: “Is This the Country Our Founders Envisioned?” A $100 award and certificate went to Allison Dubois, Faith Church senior.

Junior high written essay entry theme: “What is Patriotism to Me?” A $100 award and certificate went to Jason Schreiber, Schaghacoke eighth grader. Schaghacoke eighth graders Molly Coffey and Ellie Jowdy received second place certificates.

New national themes for the 2021-22 year will be announced in August. Those interested can check the VFW website at VFW.org under scholarships. Every year the VFW gives millions of dollars in awards available to American students and others in patriotic-themed contests.
