New Milford CERT: Always have a family emergency communication plan

Since a disaster can strike at any time, always remember these important tips:

Make sure your household members with phones are signed up for alerts and warnings from their school and workplace. To find out more about how to sign up, see Know Your Alerts and Warnings at ready.gov

Have a Go-Bag ready. Pack it with essentials including batteries, flashlights, emergency food, blankets, and charging devices for your mobile phone

Emergency meeting places. Decide on a safe, familiar place your family can go for protection or to reunite. If you have pets, think about animal-friendly locations.

Communicate regularly. Discuss the plan with your household members periodically to ensure everyone remembers what to have packed, where to go, and how to communicate. Remember, texting will save battery life and communicate effectively to loved ones.
