Nancy Moore Schimpf Wetherbee, 79, of Sherman, died Oct. 14 at Candlewood Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in New Milford.

She was born in New York City, daughter of the late Edward Bates Schimpf and Barbara Stockwell Schimpf, and was raised on the family farm in Sherman.

Mrs. Wetherbee graduated from Sherman School, New Milford High School and from the University of Connecticut School of Agriculture.

She married Dr. David Kenneth Wetherbee in 1955 and, after a divorce, moved with her children back to the family farm, Crooked Furrows, where she raised prize-winning sheep.

She worked for Nestle in the research and development division in New Milford, and then went to work for 18 years in her son's cabinet shop.

Mrs. Wetherbee is survived by three sisters, Barbara Tiebout; Elizabeth, and her husband, George Beatty; and Martha, and her husband, Kenneth Johnson, of Sherman; four children, Rachel Hutchison and her husband David, of Evergreen, Co.; Sally Wetherbee and Alden Dryer, of Shelburn, Mass.; Polly Biagiotti and her husband, Paul, of Jerome, Idaho; and Peter Wetherbee and his wife, Cristina, of Sherman; nine grandchildren, Leah Roach, Bradley Hutchison, Amos Wetherbee, Debby Dryer, Nathaniel and Hadley Biagiotti, Peter, Michelle and Chandler Wetherbee; and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Cecile Wetherbee.

The Lillis Funeral Home in New Milford was in charge of arrangements.
