Names sought for Korean War veterans
The American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in New Milford are coordinating a project to collect names of Korean War veterans who are New Milford and Gaylordsville, Sherman and Bridgewater residents.
Names will be inscribed on a new plaque to be placed at a location to be determined in New Milford.
A monument on the Village Green recognizes Civil War and World War I veterans, a wall of honor in town hall recognizes World War II veterans and a plaque in town hall honors two veterans from New Milford who were killed in action during the Vietnam War, along with the only New Milford veteran still missing from the Korean War.
People interested in having their name inscribed on the Korean War plaque should submit their name, rank, branch of service, year of entry into the service, year of discharge from the service, awards, other special information and phone number to the Ezra Woods Post No. 31 American Legion, 377 Kent Road, New Milford, CT 06776, attention Jeffrey McBreairty, by July 1.
The names of individuals will be featured on the plaque, while the other information, excluding phone numbers, will be included in the next edition of "Honored Glory," a book about local veterans.
The plaque is expected to be dedicated on Veterans Day inn November.
