A kick-off party for a compilation CD of music featuring songs by musicians and bands from the Greater New Milford area will be held Feb. 6.

The event will run from 8 to 11:30 p.m. at Fast Eddie's at 46 Old State Road.

Local musicians and bands in high school and older are invited to submit a song for consideration.

In addition, sponsors are sought for the project, and pre-sales are being accepted.

The CD project is coordinated by musicians Bob Brophy and Chris Ellis of the Pass the Hat Productions based in New Milford.

Pass the Hat Productions helps raise money for nonprofit organizations and individuals in need in the Greater New Milford area.

Proceeds from the project will benefit MVP/SOS, a volunteer nonprofit foundation whose mission is, according to its website, "to provide funding to New Milford children who have financial need, so that they are able to participate in school-related or after-school sports, arts, music and educational programs."

Brophy said a compilation CD affords musicians and bands the opportunity to get more exposure for their music.

Brophy, a member of The Blue Yodels band, said he expects the CD to have 15 tracks and to feature "family friendly" music that is geared toward adults.

There is a $10 non-refundable entry fee.

Brophy said a small group of musicians will narrow the entries down. Then, a group of other musicians, venue owners, promoters, recording student professionals and others will be brought in to help select the final tracks.

Final entry guidelines will be posted at www.passthehatproductions.com by Feb. 1. In the meantime, information may be found at Pass the Hat Productions on Facebook.

CDs are available for $10.
