Mildred (La Russo) Sargeant, 88, of New Milford, died April 7, 2012.

Mrs. Sargeant was born Feb. 20, 1924, in Stamford, daughter of the late Leopoldo and Agnes Santoro.

She lived in Stamford with her husband, Sal, raising their three daughters. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Church until moving to New Milford.

After the passing of her first husband, she married Ed Sargeant in 1978. They resided in Davie, Fla., and New Milford.

From 1973-90, Mrs. Sargeant was co-owner of Mountain View Nursery School in New Milford.

She enjoyed trips to the casino. She was known for her caring, generous spirit and compassion for the

Mrs. Sargeant is survived by three daughters, and their husbands, Betty Coppola Baisden, and her husband, Leon, of Lesage, W.Va., Beverly Swiatowicz, and her husband, John, of New Milford, and Arlene Coppola, and her husband, Dave, of Margate Fla.; three grandchildren, Brian Coppola, and his wife, Dawn, of Shelton, and Michael La Russo, and Rachael Coppola Birchall, and her husband, Paul, of New Milford; and a former son-in-law, Carmine Coppola, of Seminole, Fla. She was predeceased by her three brothers, Mike, Louie and Alfred Santoro; a sister, Connie Desio; and her husbands, Sal La Russo, in 1977, and Ed Sargeant, in 2002.

There are no calling hours. Burial will be private in St. John's Cemetery, Darien.
