Michael Zelonka, 64, enjoyed fishing
Michael Anthony Zelonka, 64, of New Milford, died March 15 in Miami. He was the husband of Gioia (Faiman) Zelonka.
He was born Aug. 14, 1948, in Manhattan, N.Y., son of the late Anthony and Edith (Kubick) Zelonka. He moved from Queens, N.Y., to New Milford 39 years ago.
He had worked as a sales representative for 7UP for 20 years in the Bronx, N.Y., then at Filene's in Danbury for 10 years.
He enjoyed fishing, the beach and spending time with his family and friends.
He was a Scout Master for Troop 58 and coached his daughter's softball team for several years.
He donated time and money to many causes, including St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the ASPCA, the Humane Society and others. He was an active volunteer at Bert Fish Medical Center in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. He enjoyed visiting with the patients and bringing a smile to their faces.
In addition to his wife of 39 years, he is survived by his children, William Zelonka, and his wife, Colleen; Scott Zelonka, and his wife, Chrystal; Erika Theodorides, and her husband, Spyros; and three grandchildren, Caiden, Hudson and Teagan Zelonka.
A memorial service will take place April 27 at noon at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Catholic Church in Brookfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bert Fish Medical Foundation, 401 Palmetto St., New Smyrna Beach FL 32168 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
