Memories are ever so fresh for Americans of Sept. 11, 2001.

Hundreds of New Milford residents shared an emotional ceremony September 11, 2013, remembering the 12th anniversary of that tragic day and the thousands who lost their lives in New York City, Pennsyvlvania and in Washington D.C.

First responders including New Milford police, firefighters and ambulance volunteers, as well as local military veterans, were prominent among the many on hand at the town's 9/11 memorial, located along the Patriots Way parking plaza.

The service commenced at 8:46 a.m. with the Water Witch Hose Co. No. 2 firefighters tolling their apparatus bell.

Among those offering their thoughts on 9/11 were Mayor Pat Murphy, State Sen. Clark Chapin (R-30th) and State Rep. Cecilia Buck-Taylor (R-67th).
