Maureen Haas, 58, had worked at school

She was born July 5, 1954, in Stamford, daughter of Betty (Hircoe) Barney of Haddam and the late William J. Barney Sr.
She moved to Thomaston five years ago from New Milford, where she had lived for 21 years and was working as a para-professional at Hill and Plain School in New Milford for the past 15 years, working one on one with special needs children.
She was a lifelong member of Camp Washington and the director of children's ministries at Christ Episcopal Church in Roxbury.
In addition to her husband of 30 years and her mother, she is survived by a son, Erik Haas, of Thomaston; a daughter, Melissa Haas, and her husband, Matthew Cornish, of Bristol; and a brother, William J. Barney Jr., of Moodus. She was predeceased by a sister, Patricia Barney.
A funeral service will be held April 20 at 11 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church in Roxbury. Interment will follow at the Christ Church Columbarium.
The Lillis Funeral Home in New Milford is in charge of arrangements.
