Mary McGavic, 86, was a nurse's aid

She was born July 15, 1926, in Clarksville, Tenn., the daughter of Gupton and Ethel Barbee.
She had been a nurse's aide for many years at the New Milford Hospital in New Milford.
She enjoyed sewing, reading, holidays and birthday celebrations and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.
She is survived by her children, Patsy Ann Tompkins, and her husband, Casey, of Barton, Vt.; Barbara Kay McGavic, of New Milford; Mary Virginia Williamson, of St. Johnsbury; Wayne Douglas McGavic, and his wife, Libby, of Thomasville, N.C.; George David McGavic, and his wife, Nancy, of New Milford; three grandchildren, Alexander and Andrew McGavic, of Thomasville; and Mary Roxanne Williamson, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a great-granddaughter, Mary Alice, of Myrtle Beach; granddogs, Keeley, Winnie and Bree; a brother, George Barbee, of Clarksville; three sisters, Marta Elizabeth, and her husband, Chester, of Hopkinsville, Ky.; Shirley McDaniel, and her husband, Joseph, of Elgin, S.C.; and Virginia Jordon, of Florence, S.C.; many nieces and nephews; her porch-sitting buddies, Pamela Decker, of New Milford, and Mary Overton, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and Bob and Janet Tuthill, of Sutton, Vt., who affectionately called her "Elvira." She was predeceased by a brother, William Barbee.
Funeral services will take place at a later date in North Carolina. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lyndonville United Methodist Church in Vermont or to the Barton Public Library, Main Street, Barton VT 05822.
Pearson's Funeral Home in Lyndonville was in charge of arrangements.
