Mary Burcaw, 68, of Bridgewater, formerly of New Milford, died Nov. 30, 2011, at New Milford Hospital, after a 12-year battle with cancer. She was the wife of Jeffrey Fredric Burcaw.

Mrs. Burcaw was born July 20, 1943, in Nyack, N.Y., daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine Callahan Kreinik.

She had been a resident of New Milford for 38 years before moving to Bridgewater.

Mrs. Burcaw was a graduate of St. John's University. She received a master's degree in education from Hunter College and a master's degree from Western Connecticut State University.

She worked many years for Ability Beyond Disability in Brookfield and was a teacher at New Milford High School.

She was employed at New Milford Hospital for the past 12 years.

In addition to her husband of 46 years, Mrs. Burcaw is survived by a son, Joseph Burcaw, and his wife, LeAnn, of Manhattan, NY; a brother, Jerry Kreinik, and his wife, Kathi, of Hawaii; a brother-in-law, Matthew Burcaw, and his wife, Karin, of Manhattan, NY; close cousins, John and Beth Brink, of Southbury, Gene and Ginny Callahan, of Somers, N.Y., Steve and Abbey Kreinik, of West Hartford, and Marty and Louise Kreinik, of Weston.

Friends may call today (Friday) from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated tomorrow (Saturday) at noon at St. Francis Xavier Church, 26 Chestnutland Road, New Milford.

The burial of cremains will be private at a later date.
