Many holiday events in the area

The following holiday events will take place in the Danbury area:

BETHEL -- Horse-drawn carriage rides will be offered Friday from noon to 4 p.m., and Boy Scouts will be giving out soup supplied by local restaurants along Greenwood Avenue, before the town's tree lighting at approximately 5:30 p.m.

At 4:30, there will be caroling on the green by the Bethel High School chorus. At 5:15 p.m., the first selectman and president of the Bethel Chamber of Commerce will extend greetings to the public.

There will be a countdown to the lighting of the Christmas tree at P.T.

Barnum Square. Santa will arrive there at 5:30 p.m. by fire truck.

Afterward, doughnuts and cider will be served at the Chamber of Commerce office, 16 P.T. Barnum Square.

BREWSTER, N.Y. -- A holiday caroling and a lighting festival will take place Dec. 5 at 5 p.m. at the Southeast Museum, 67 Main St.

Santa will be there and free hot chocolate, cider and cookies will be available.

At 4:30 p.m., there will be a holiday ornament making workshop ($5 materials fee), then a sing-along on Main Street near the Brewster train station, followed by the lighting of a Christmas tree at Walter Brewster House.

DANBURY -- A Christmas tree that was donated by a New Fairfield resident and is sitting on a 65-foot tower at M&M Precast Corp., will be lit Friday at 6 p.m.

The public is invited to attend this event at the 39 Padanaram Road business. They are asked to bring a donation of gloves, scarf or hat for a local children's charity.

DANBURY -- CityCenter Danbury will welcome Santa at "Light the Lights" Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. on Library Plaza at 170 Main St.

Santa will arrive by fire truck, courtesy of the Beckerle Hose Co., and the holiday lights will beturned on.

Kids can enjoy cookies, candy, carols and crafts

during the event. Adults should bring their cameras, because Santa will go across the street to the Palace

NEW MILFORD -- The Village Center Organization in New Milford will hold its annual Festival of Lights on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

The trees along the Village Green, donated by Angevine's Tree Farm and put up by the New Milford United Methodist Church's Men's Club, will be lighted. Santa, who will arrive by fire truck, will help residents with the countdown.

Afterward, Santa will meet and be photographed with children.

Frank Wargo will serve as emcee and Curtis T will sing the national anthem. Youth performers from TheatreWorks will sing Christmas carols and other music.

EDGE, the youth group from St. Francis Xavier Church, will sell hot chocolate and baked goods. Proceeds from those sales, along with donations from photographs with Santa, to go to the New Milford Santa Fund.

A gingerbread contest organized by Sassy Shoe on Bank Street will begin.

RIDGEFIELD -- Santa is expected to visit Ridgefield Friday, shortly after carolling begins in front of Town Hall at 6 p.m. The person chosen for the honor of flipping the light switch on will be announced and will light the tree.

Hot cocoa will be served at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 351 Main St. Children can visit Santa in the large conference room at Ridgefield Town Hall, 400 Main St., and have their picture taken with him.
