The Western Connecticut Business Volunteer Council of the Volunteer Center serving western Connecticut is grateful to all of the local businesses that participated in our 14th annual Back to School Project.

This project provides backpacks filled with supplies and gift certificates for elementary schoolchildren. This year we partnered with Danbury's Roberts Avenue School and area social service agencies that referred children in need.

The gift certificates enabled families to shop together and allowed the children to enjoy the back-to-school shopping experience. The gift certificates and school supplies are tools to promote education and the importance of school readiness.

We want to congratulate and thank all of the participating companies and their volunteers for this wonderful effort. We also want to express our gratitude to the leadership team of Meyer-Jabara Hotels that managed this project for the WCBVC.

Volunteers lead by example, and that is exactly what the members of WCBVC do. The WCBVC is a coalition of businesses that provide leadership in meeting community needs through business and employee volunteerism. Membership is open to all Western Connecticut businesses.
