One Book, One Lake, the area's first multi-community reading program, has announced a contest to create a logo for its inaugural event that will be held this summer.

The public libraries of the five towns that surround Candlewood Lake -- New Milford, Sherman, Danbury, New Fairfield and Brookfield -- are planning a series of events related to Bill Bryson 's "A Walk in the Woods," a book about his attempt to hike the Appalachian Trail.

Residents of the five lake communities from high school age and older are encouraged to submit an original graphic design that conveys the ideas of reading and the lake that will be reused for future biennial One Book, One Lake programs in print and Web publicity.

Entries should adhere to all copyright laws, contain the words "One Book, One Lake" and be submitted on a white background of 5x5 inches.

Entries should be submitted electronically in pdf or jpeg format no later than Feb. 28 to New Fairfield Library Programs at

The winner must provide high resolution art in one of the final formats for final reproduction -- jpg (300 dpi), tiff (300 dpi), high resoution pdf (fonts and image embedded) or eps (all fonts converted to outline, any images included).

The winning entry will become the property of the One Book, One Lake Committee, and its creator will receive credit wherever the design is used.
