To the Editor:

On behalf of the New Milford Democratic Town Committee, I want to thank everyone who came out to vote Nov. 3.

New Milford residents should be proud of the record-setting turnout for a municipal election. More than 45 percent of registered voters went to the polls.

It is a testament to what happens when you give people a choice of qualified candidates.

We would hope this unprecedented turnout will translate to other areas of public life - that people will attend Town Council, Zoning Commission, Board of Education and other civic meetings to make themselves heard and remain current on what their town leaders are doing.

We are committed to running a government that is transparent, responsive and accountable.

Also, we want to congratulate and thank Mayor Pat Murphy for her 12 years of dedicated public service in the office.

Although we are political opponents, we also recognize that serving as mayor can be an arduous task.

Otherwise, a lot more people would run for the job.
