Lawrence Matte, 76, had served in the Air Force

Lawrence "Larry" Jay Matte, 76, died Nov. 21, 2010, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Janice Matte for 49 years and a resident of Redding for 37 years.

Mr. Matte was born April 2, 1934, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Norman Ellis and Grayce Matte.

He attended schools in New York City and served four years in the U.S. Air Force Strategic Air Command during the Korean conflict.

Retired in 1999, he was an active member and developer of the Redding Soccer Club, volunteered for many years as a voting pollster for the town of Redding, and worked part time at the Redding Recycling Center for nine years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three children, Allan Matte, and his wife, Heather, of New Milford, Valerie Zabin, and her husband, Josh, of Monroe, and Brian Matte, and his wife, Kristin, of Newtown: four grandchildren, Devin, Karlie, Sara and Connor; a sister, Alene Ammond, of Cherry Hill, N.J.; a brother, Norman Matte, of Greenwich; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Nome, of Avon.

The Bouton Funeral Home of Georgetown was in charge of arrangements.
