To the Editor:

On behalf of our committee, I would like to thank all who participated in our 9/11 ceremony, helping to make it a success.

I'd like to recognize all of New Milford's first responders (ambulance, fire and police) for their dedication and sacrifice to our community.

Thanks to Sgt. Warren Hengel, U.S. Marine Corps, and Jeff McBreairty, American Legion Post 31, who assisted the Korean Wars veterans, Chapter 11 of Danbury, in the changing of the colors.

The new flag was raised by New Milford's community ambulance president, Ellen Healey, Water Witch Hose Co. No. 2 fire Chief Jim Ferlow, and New Milford police Lt. William Scribner.

Curtis Thompson sang the National Anthem and invocation was given by Father Lawrence Parent of St. Francis Xavier Church.

St. Francis' choir sang "Our Hearts were Broken Today," composed by Doreen Gray, dedicated to 9/11, and closed the ceremony by singing "God, Bless America," joined by Cathy Reynolds. Patrick Maguire played "Amazing Grace" on bagpipes.

Thanks to the local veterans and the Korean War veterans of Danbury who participated in the ceremony, and to Stop & Shop for the flowers for the memorial monument.

Special thanks to Tammy Reardon, Peter Orenski, Cheryl Bonis, Walter Bayer and Patrick Maguire, whose assistance helped to make our ceremony a reflective time.
