To The Editor:

Forty-six pounds of prescription medications were collected Sept. 29 at the Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, hosted by the Northwest Corner Prevention Network at Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village.

We applaud and thank the 29 area residents who dropped off their unused and unwanted medications for anonymous and safe disposal.

We wish to note approximately 10 percent of the total collected are classified as controlled substances, which highlights the added importance of this take-back day.

We wish to thank the Housatonic Youth Service Bureau and the Housatonic Valley Coalition Against Substance Abuse for their sponsorship and donations of hand-out materials; HVRHS for use of its facility; Troop B and Trooper Roy Dungan, and Rita Staino of Rite-Aid Pharmacy.

Also, we are grateful for the assistance of Prevention Network members Maria Bulson, Anne Hughes, Nick Pohl and HYSB intern Jamie Kakuc.

We encourage residents across the six Region One towns to continue to promote and support this safe and environmentally friendly way to dispose of unwanted medications.

We hope you will watch for our spring take-back day.
