Laud community effort on the road races
To the Editor:
On behalf of the New Milford Parks & Recreation Department, we would like to thank all of those involved with the 48th annual 8-Mile and 13th annual Village Fair Days 5K road races.
These events were held Saturday, July 25, with nearly 500 registered runners.
The tremendous support from our wonderful community, along with the hardworking staff at Parks & Recreation, is the reason we are able to continue to offer elite and recreational runners the opportunity to compete against their peers on New Milford’s beautiful country roads.
We would like to warm up by thanking the hundreds of runners, many of whom have faithfully returned each year, for making the races this year so successful.
We certainly admire your determination to conquer these challenging courses and are inspired by your successes. Your talent and love of running is what motivates us to continually strive to make this a safe and wonderful event for you to enjoy.
We would like to thank the entire staff at the Parks & Recreation Department, the town’s parks maintenance staff, the Public Works Department, the New Milford Police Department and New Milford Community Ambulance for providing a well-organized and safe event.
Of course, the race would not be possible without the support of our many sponsors.
We would like to thank our premier sponsors — Circle Asphalt, Union Savings Bank, Western Connecticut Health Network and New Milford Orthopedic Associates.
Many thanks also to our other financial sponsors which include Candlewood Valley Pediatrics, Braces — Drs. Phillips, Full Circle Promos, Bank Street Theater and Candlewood Valley Motors.
We would also like to thank the following businesses for their valuable contributions:
Road ID, Wal-Mart, Big Y, Triple Springs Water, Kimberly-Clark, Stop and Shop, Northville Market, H.H. Taylor & Son, Costco, Stew Leonard’s, New Milford Sports Club, BJ’s Wholesale, the Cookhouse, Active Network, the Children’s Movement Center, the New Milford Spirit Shoppe and Robertson’s Jewelers.
As always, the pre-race and race publicity provided by the Greater New Milford Spectrum provides tremendous coverage and wonderful photos.
We would like to recognize the fine services rendered by Marty Carlson Sound System, Greystone Racing and announcer Brent Hawkins.
Thanks to the volunteers from the New Milford High School dance team, New Milford High School swim team and from the Community Emergency Response Team.
And, to our many, many volunteers who have given generously of their time and effort at registration, the finish line, refreshments, water stops, timing, split times, entertainment and traffic and safety, our heartfelt thanks.
We would like to thank all the fans who cheered for all the runners and those people along the route who provided hoses, water, music and encouragement.
As we approach the finish line, we want to once again express our heartfelt thanks to all of you who made race day so successful.
And finally, to the runners, who were so inspirational and made our races so exciting and worthwhile, many thanks. See you all on July 30, 2016.
