TheatreWorks New Milford is accepting registration for its TheatreWorks Kids program.

The eight-week program, a Shakespeare workshop of "The Tempest," will begin Sunday, Oct. 19 and culminate with a Dec. 13 performance.

Young actors program

Instructor Amy Emke will lead the program, which is geared toward students aged 5 to 7 and 8 to 18.

Students aged 5 to 7 will meet for one hour every Sunday and will be introduced to the fundamentals of drama and performance through a variety of theatre games and activities, using music, props, puppets and other materials for hands-on learning.

They will focus on listening and cooperation skills and will also learn the vocabulary used by actors and directors when they create a production. They will also learn the story of "The Tempest," including learning short Shakespearean texts through song.

The cost is $100.

Students 8 to 18

Students ages 8 to 18 will meet on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays for 90 minutes each day, and will learn the fundamentals of acting technique through the use of theatre games and improvisations.

They will become familiar with William Shakespeare's "The Tempest" through a variety of hands-on activities and explorations of the text.

Voice projection, relaxation techniques, character development and scene study will be included as the students work on developing "The Tempest," including original music.

The cost is $350.

All programs will be held at the 5 Brookside Ave. theater.
