Kent seeks to add accessory apartments
There is a new resource for Kent homeowners considering adding an apartment to their home.
The Accessory Apartment program was developed by Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation through the foundation's HousingUs initiative.
It helps homeowners by adding value to their homes, creating rental income, and also supports the community by providing affordable housing options.
Kent is the latest town to offer the program. Salisbury and Sharon are also participating.
An accessory apartment can be created or remodeled from current spaces in a home, or a separate structure such as a barn or space over a garage.
Accessory apartments provide a multitude of advantages for homeowners, such as rental income, tax benefits and added security for seniors and homeowners who travel frequently.
