Kent park and recreation notes

The Kent Park and Recreation Department is offering a variety of programs.
Office hours on the second floor at town hall are Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon. and 1 to 2:30 p.m. Program registration forms are available outside the office weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Recreation passes for 2009-10 are $35 for residents and $65 for non-residents. There is no charge for residents aged 65 and older. Passes are sold at the Park and Rec office and at Emery Park. Passes are necessary for swimming and swim lessons at Emery Park, for tennis at Kent Common Park and for holiday ice skating.
Youths aged 5-11 may participate Monday to next Thursday, July 27-30, in a dance camp including some voice and acting instruction, directed by former Rockettes and Broadway dancer Jeri Kansas. Cost will be $65.
Learn to swim
A session will meet Mondays through Fridays from Aug. 3 to 14 with 30-minute classes for youths aged 5 and older at Emery Park. A park pass is required for participation. Forms are available at the park daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. or at the Park and Recreation office.
Youths aged 4 and older may participate Aug. 3-7 from 9 a.m. to noon in soccer sessions meeting at Center School. Cost including T-shirt and ball will be $135. Signup is available at www.nogasoccer.com or by calling Park and Recreation at (860) 927-1003.
U.S. Sports Institute's beginner lacrosse clinic for youths aged 6-14 will be offered Aug. 10-14 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Center School at the cost of $104.
Slamma Jamma basketball
Coach Art Leary's Slamma Jamma basketball camp will be directed by Kelvin Jefferson meeting Aug. 10-14 at South Kent School. Youths upcoming in grades K-3 will meet from 9 a.m. to noon at the cost of $125 and youths aged 7-14 will meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the cost of $165. Cost will include a basketball and T-shirt. Youths in grades 6-8 may participate Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. through Aug. 18 in Frisbee games at Center School. Participants are asked to bring a Frisbee if possible. For registration, call or stop by the Park and Recreation office.
Beginner sessions for any aged dog instructed by Lee Sohl will meet Wednesdays from 6 to 7 p.m. for eight weeks starting Aug. 12 at Kent Common Park. Cost will be $65. Participants are asked to attend the first session without their dogs. For registration or information, call Lee Sohl at (860) 927-4783.
Region One families
A family outing will be offered Aug. 18 at Lake Compounce. Tickets at $25 per person or $40 including transportation are available with reservations made by sending a check payable to Sharon Rec & Youth to Sharon Rec & Youth, P.O. Sessions meet Thursdays from 5:45 to 7 p.m. at the Community House on North Main Street. Cost is $75 for six weeks or $15 per class. Registration may be made at the Park and Rec office.
