A $10.6 million budget for 2010-11 passed May 21 by a vote of 57 to 13 at the Kent town meeting.

In part thanks to a transfer from the town's general fund, the mil rate was reduced to mill 14.02.

Of the overall budget, $6.2 million represented the town's portion of the Region 1 school district funding.

First Selectman Bruce Adams said the 13 `no' votes largely came from residents who stated they want a resident trooper position returned to the town.

Mr. Adams said, while most residents in the town don't feel the resident trooper is needed at this time, the issue will be revisited in the future.
