The Kent Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Kent Sidewalk Festival Aug. 7 to 10 in and around downtown Kent.

Offerings will include food, music, sales, games and activities for all ages.

New this year will be a cash raffle. Only 1,000 tickets will be sold. Prizes will be $1,000, $500 and $250.

Tickets are $5 each and may be purchased in advance at Annie Bananie Ice Cream, Club Getaway, Country Clothes, Fife 'n' Drum Gift Shop and Restaurant, Foreign Cargo, Heron American Craft Gallery, House of Books, J.J. Grogan's, Kent Apothecary, Sundog Shoe and Leather, Terston Home Accents and Apparel, The Primitive Home and Union Savings Bank.

The drawing is Aug. 11 at 10 a.m. at the Swift House, with winners to be notified by email or phone.

Children's activities will include henna tattoos at Tertson for a $10 donation to the food bank Aug. 8 to 9 from 1 to 4 p.m.; a sidewalk chalk mural contest at the library, weather permitting, Aug. 9; selections of "The Little Mermaid" by the company of TriArts Sharon Playhouse Aug. 10; and carnival games, sponsored by Club Getaway.

Crystal Castle will host a tag sale to benefit the Women's Center in Danbury.

Kent Apothecary will offer health-conscious demonstrations, including chair massages from Equilibrium Bodyworks Aug. 7 to 8, Juice Plus Aug. 9 and blood pressure screenings by the Kent Specialty Care Center Aug. 9 to 10.

The Kent Food Bank will accept donations of nonperishable food, personal hygiene products and cleaning supplies Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Country Clothes sponsors a Kitten Adopt-a-Thon Aug. 9 from 10

a.m. to 3 p.m., with a rain date of Aug. 10 from noon to 4 p.m. Applications are available at www.cooperativecats.vpweb.com.

Foreign Cargo hosts a drum circle Aug. 9

at 10:30 a.m.

Music will be performed at the railroad station Aug. 9 by Hummingbird (Bruce Osborne and company) at noon, George Potts at 1 p.m., Bruce Wheeler at 2 and Steve Katz at 3.

A cruise night will be offered Aug. 9 from 4 to 8 p.m. on the Kent Green.

A dance and hula hoop party will take place Aug. 10 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Annie Bananie and Backcountry Outfitters.

A disc jockey will provide entertainment and Fife 'n' Drum Restaurant will offer chicken, hamburgers and hotdogs.

An "AKC Meet the Breeds" program will take place Aug. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Local nonprofit organizations will be represented, and a variety of food will be sold along Main Street.
