Kent Chamber to sponsor Sidewalk Festival

The Kent Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the annual Kent Sidewalk Festival Aug. 1-4 in and around downtown Kent.

Offerings will include food, music, sales and activities for all ages.

Following is a list of activities:

Sales will be offered under tents at Terston Home Accents & Apparel, Country Clothes, Foreign Cargo, Main Street Antiques, Riedel Glassware at Kent Wine & Spirit, Earth Lore and Black Sheep Yarns. Various sales will also be at Black Sheep Yarns, Kent Wine & Spirit, House of Books and Sundog Shoe and Leather, and at Kent Memorial Library's book sale. Patrons of Rolling River Antiques will give customers who spend $100 or more an opportunity to enter a daily drawing for a $50 gift certificate.

St. Andrew's Episcopal Church at Routes 7 and 341 will kick off its annual tag sale Aug. 2. Early bird admission will be offered Aug. 2 from 8:30 to 10 a.m. for $10. Free admission will begin at 10 a.m. The sale will also be open Aug. 3-4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A variety of food will be sold along Main Street from Kent Pizza Garden, Fife'n Drum Restaurant, Panini's, Annie Bananie's, The Villager, Kent Coffee and Chocolate, Kent Wine & Spirit, J.P. Gifford Market and Catering and Bull's Bridge Inn.

Children's activities will include face painting, courtesy of the Kent Children's Center, visits with baby goats and Goat Boy Soap at The Primitive Home and henna tattoos Aug. 2; a sidewalk chalk art contest at the library Aug. 3 at 10:30 a.m.; fire truck rides at the Kent Green Aug. 3 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and a petting zoo at Three Monkeys and Me, baby goats and the sale of Goat Boy Soap at The Primitive Home, and carnival games provided by Club Getaway on the Kent Green, all Aug.

A demonstration by the AKC of several dog breeds will be given Aug. 4.

Musical offerings will include performances on stage by members of the TriArts Sharon Playhouse cast of "Damn Yankees" Aug. 3 at 11 a.m. and the cast of "13, The Musical" Aug. 3 at 1 p.m.; music by Improper Judgment Aug. 3 at 1 p.m.; music by the True Jenson band Aug. 3 at 3 p.m.; music by The Nice Ones Aug. 4 at 2 p.m.; a drum circle with George Werner Aug. 3 at noon at Foreign Cargo; and a dance and hula hoop party Aug. 4 from 2 to 4 p.m. and a limbo competition at 3 p.m. at Annie Bananie and Backcountry Outfitters.

Art offerings will include an exhibit featuring works by cardboard sculptor Henry Klimowicz at the Morrison Gallery; the president's show at the Kent Art Association; an exhibit of works by Edward Little at The Good Gallery; African, Asian and Pacific island art in the gallery at Foreign Cargo; local art at the new Gallery Platform 8 in the caboose; oil and watercolor landscapes by Paul Zimmerman at Scott and Bowne; metal roots by Steve Tobin, installed by the Morrison Gallery, up and down the streets of Kent; and pastel demonstrations by Clayton Buchanan Aug. 3 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Kent Art Association on Route 7; and a talk about his work with Little Aug. 3-4 at The Good Gallery.

Cruise Night will be held Aug. 3 from 4 to 8 p.m. on the Kent Green, featuring vintage cars, a disc jockey and a barbecue provided by the Fife `n Drum Restaurant.

Not all events take place all hours each day.

Parking will be available on the street, at the Kent town center and on the Kent Green property.
