Kent Chamber to sponsor Sidewalk Festival

The Kent Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the annual Kent Sidewalk Festival Aug. 2-5.

The event will feature food, sales, music and offerings for all ages.

Following is a list of activities:

Many restaurants will offer ethnic "street" food outside their doors. In addition, the Crystal Castle will serve Italian ice, Kent Wine & Spirit will offer wine tastings and Annie Bananie will sell burgers, hot dogs and ice cream.

Backcountry Outfitters will hold its Cheeseburgers in Paradise event Aug. 3 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Chair caning demonstrations with Karen Shaw will be held Aug. 3-4 at 10 a.m.

Local music groups, including students from the Litchfield Jazz Camp, as well as Still: the Homegrown Band, Dave Wonsey, Hummingbird, 6 Demon Bag, Andy and Jeannette Hicks, and The Joint Chiefs will provide music at the bring-your-own-chair concert in front of Lindsey Booksellers Aug. 4-5.

Maria von Trapp and her children, courtesy of the TriArts Sharon Playhouse, will perform up and down North Main Street late morning Aug. 4.

Other activities Aug. 4 will include a petting zoo at Three Monkeys and Me in the Village Barn area from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; a weaving demonstration with Barbara Dull at Country Clothes at 10 a.m.; a sidewalk chalk art contest at the library from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.; demonstrations with the state police's Convincer at Backcountry Outfitters at 11 a.m.; henna tattoos by Karen Stevens at Terston at 11 a.m.; and fire truck rides at times to be determined.

A cruise night will be held Aug. 4 from 4 to 8 p.m.

On Aug. 5, balloon creations with Doug Gouger will be held at Annie Bananie Aug. 5 at 2:30 p.m. and hay rides will be held in the afternoon.

Nonprofit organizations will hold sales throughout the festival. They include St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and the Upscale Tag Sale that benefits the Kent Center School Scholarship Fund.

The library's summer book sale will offer extended hours.

A drawing -- scheduled for Aug. 5 at 2 p.m. -- to win a shopping spree will be available.
