Kent Board of Ed budget at $7.1M
The Kent Board of Education is proposing a $7.1 million budget for 2016-17, a 2.6 percent increase over the present year.
The capital request includes: $300,000 for the Kent Center School roof replacement; $850,000 for renovations to the original building; and $317,300 for window replacement. The window replacement figure was added by the board despite the Board of Finance request not to alter items already established in the first four years of the Capital Plan.
Building Committee Chairman Paul Cortese said the renovations have to be done. Replacing the single-pane windows in the school wing will reduce fuel consumption. The Board of Selectmen has questioned the window replacement being included in the Capital request for 2016-17. But Cortese said it has been on the education board’s agenda for some time.
The five year Capital Plan amount for the 2016-17 period, including Board of Education capital, that the Selectmen planned to present to the Board of Finance March 15 is $872,000. The addition of the school windows replacement increases the figure by $317,300.
