Kathleen Margaret Dugan, 70, of New Milford, died Feb. 16, 2012, at Danbury Hospital, a result of an auto accident.

Dr. Dugan was born April 6, 1941, in New Haven, daughter of the late Raymond and Mildred Welsh Dugan.

She was a graduate of St. Francis School, New Milford High School, and Marymount College. She received a Ph.D. from Fordham University.

Dr. Dugan was a professor of religious studies at the University of San Diego, serving a term as chairman of the department. She retired in 2007 after over 30 years of service and returned to her family homestead in New Milford.

She was a member of the American Academy of Religion.

Dr. Dugan is survived by a sister, Ellen D. Czuchlewski, and her husband, Paul, of Woodside, N.Y.; a nephew, Dr. David Czuchlewski; and a niece, Nora Tamm; a grandnephew, Ryan Tamm; and two grandnieces, Talia and Abigail Czuchlewski.

A spring burial will take place at St. Francis Cemetery in New Milford.

The Lillis Funeral Home in New Milford is in charge of arrangements.
