June Piper, 71, loved time with family
June Margaret May (Kitching) Piper, 71, died Feb. 24 after a 16-year battle against cancer. She was at home surrounded by her husband, Artie, and her family.
Mrs. Piper was born Dec. 30, 1941, in Sheerness, Kent, England, to the late John and Phyllis (Kenton) Kitching.
She was known as a loving, selfless person who put the needs of all others before herself.
In December 1963, she came to the United States to work as a nanny in Armonk, N.Y. She met her future husband, Arthur, in March of 1965, and they married in December of that year at a wedding ceremony in England.
The couple began their married life in Dayton, Ohio, while Mr. Piper worked at NCR, then moved to Port Chester, N.Y., and finally settled in New Milford in 1973.
Mrs. Piper June worked many jobs and enjoyed her time at Quality Seals in Danbury and also Housatonic Valley Publishing Co. in New Milford.
The aspect of Mrs. Piper's life that she was most proud of was her family. She enjoyed spending time with all of her six children and 14 grandchildren and was lovingly known as Grandma and Nannie. She loved telling stories of their accomplishments and activities.
In addition to her husband of 47 years, Mrs. Piper is survived by her children, Darren Piper, and his longtime companion, Laura Regan, of New Milford, and his children Ashley, Michael and Haley; John Piper, and his wife, Sue, of Waterbury, and their son, Ryan; Debra McGuire, of New Milford, and her daughters, Samantha and Jade; Heidi Warner, and her husband, Ron, of Culpeper, Va., and their children, Grace and Jack; Kevin Piper, and his wife, Lori, of Port Orange, Fla., and their children Brittany, Eric, Mark and Nicholas; and Kimberly Robinson, and her husband, Richard, of Waterbury, and their daughters, Junelise and Piper. She is also survived by "daughters" Holly Reger, of Woodbury, and Nilda Piper and Dana Rosenbergen, of New Milford; a brother, John Kitching, and his wife, Val, of Sheerness; a sister, Margaret Fagg, of Sheerness; a sister-in-law, Betty Piper, of Sherman; two brothers-in-law, Ronald, and his wife, Barbara Piper, of Dover Plains, N.Y., and Lee, and his wife, Janet Piper, of Smyrna, Ga.; and countless nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will take place Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, Whittlesey Avenue,, New Milford. A reception will follow in the church hall.
