Julius Grandieri, 86, was father of New Milfordite

Julius V. Grandieri, 86, of Heritage Village, Southbury, died Feb. 15, 2009, at Danbury Hospital. He was widower of the late Nancy (Senior) Grandieri.

Mr. Grandieri was born Sept. 4, 1922, in Danbury, son of the late Joseph and Antonia (Leo) Grandieri. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Marine Corp.

He owned and operated Grand Manufacturing, which specialized in ladies sportswear, for more than 40 years in Danbury.

He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Southbury, a member of the Catholic War Veterans, the VFW and the Phoenix Hose Co.
No. 8 in Danbury, and was a charter member of the Marine Corp. League.

He enjoyed water sports, living on Candlewood Lake in New Fairfield, and vacationing at his home in Rhode Island.

Mr. Grandieri is survived by two sons, Joseph Grandieri and his wife Patricia of Southbury, and Robert Grandieri and his wife Robin of Waterford; two daughters, Mary Ann Foncello and her husband Martin of Brookfield, and Diane Pflomm and her husband Brian of New Milford; nine grandchildren, Joseph, David and Michael Grandieri, Laura Grandieri and her husband Christopher, Bryan and Kevin Grandieri, Martin Foncello III and his wife Nicole, and Jason and Lisa Pflomm; three great-grandchildren, Sooki and Rori Grandieri, and Nina Foncello; three brothers, Peter, Modesto and Donald Grandieri; a sister-in-law, Mary Grandieri; a brother- and sister-in-law, John and Thea Senior; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Dr. Francis Grandieri.

The Cornell Memorial Home in Danbury was in charge of arrangements.
