He was born Jan. 16, 1922, in Danbury, son of the late John L. and Nellie (Karol) Seaman. He attended Danbury Schools and the Danbury Trade School.

He had worked for more than 20 years as a carpenter for the Morganti Construction Company and was a longtime member of the Danbury VFW Post 149.

He is survived by a daughter, Pamela "Penny" Snelling and her husband William of Brookfield; three sons, Joseph J. Seaman, Jr. and his wife Linda of Danbury, Carl Seaman and his wife Marcey of New Fairfield and Kevin Seaman and his wife Sue of New Milford; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Margaret Ellis and Jane Hulse.
