Joseph Halada Jr., 86, of Danbury, died April 21, 2011, at Danbury Health Care Center in Danbury.

Mr. Halada was born in Danbury, son of the late Joseph and Mary (Mikalek) Halada Sr. He attended Danbury schools.

Mr. Halada served in the United States Army in Europe during World War II. He was captured and held as a POW, and was wounded and received a Purple Heart Medal.

Prior to retirement, Mr. Halada worked in local factories and as a custodian at Danbury High School.

He was a member of the Catholic War Veterans Association.

Mr. Halada is survived by a sister, Anna Glorioso, of Danbury; four nieces, Susan Gil and Judy Corbett, of Danbury, Cindy Whalen, of New Milford, and Janice Minshew, of Stuart, Fla.; a nephew, Thomas LaPine, of Danbury; and his longtime companion, Barbara Jubenville, of Waterbury.

There are no calling hours. A graveside services will be held today (Friday) at 1:15 p.m. at St. Peter Cemetery, Section 19.

The Green Funeral Home of Danbury is in charge of arrangements.
