To the Editor:

In this time of great political turbulence and uncertainty, the 5th Congressional District needs a representative in Washington with a strong and solid background in local and state government, community leadership and solid accomplishments in Connecticut.

Mary Glassman is that person.

Mary has an impressive record as the former 16-year first selectman of Simsbury, where she brought long term benefits to her community.

She has served in the legislative, judicial and executive branches of our state government.

Under her leadership in Simsbury, the town was designated as one of the top 100 Best Places to Live by Money Magazine.

Also, she was instrumental in Simsbury being awarded a silver bicycle Friendly Community designation by the League of American Bicyclists.

Most importantly, Mary, a former legislative director of Connecticut Voices for Children, will bring her expertise on family and mental health issues to Congress.

She will be a strong advocate for women’s reproductive freedom, health care access for all Connecticut residents and finding a resolution to the opioid crisis in our towns and cities.

Lastly, as a daughter of immigrants, she will work hard to ensure and protect the rights of our immigrant families.

Please join me in voting for Mary Glassman Aug. 14.

She is a true leader who will bring her experience, compassion and energy to Congress.
