John Wanzer Jr., 89, was a war veteran
John F. Wanzer Jr., 89, of New Milford, died July 19, 2010, at Candlewood Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of the late Phyllis (Kreske) Wanzer.
Mr. Wanzer was born Dec. 24, 1920, in Danbury, son of the late John F. and Hulda (Johnson) Wanzer.
He was a graduate of Danbury High School, Class of 1938, where he was a pitcher on the school's baseball team. He also studied college meteorology.
A veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army, he was a salesman for the Electrolux Corporation for 45 years, retiring in 1987.
Mr. Wanzer is survived by a son, Robert J. Wanzer, and his wife, Colleen, of New Milford; and three grandchildren, Jaime, Ellissa, and Elizabeth Wanzer.
A private graveside service will take place at the Wooster Cemetery in Danbury at the convenience of the family.
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford is in charge of arrangements.
