John Barago Sr., 83, enjoyed traveling
Mr. Barago was born Jan. 9, 1928, in Bridgeport, son of the late John and Grace (Miller) Baraga.
He served as an electrician in the United States Coast Guard during World War II, having been stationed on Attu Island, Alaska.
Mr. Barago was employed by Carpenter Technology, formerly of Bridgeport, for 37 years before retiring at 55.
He had been a resident of Newtown since the 1950s.
Mr. Barago was a parishioner of Saint Mary's Church in Bethel, where he would assist with the church's clothing bank.
He enjoyed traveling, vacationing in New Hampshire and snowmobiling.
Mr. Barago is survived by a son, John R. Barago Jr., of Newtown; three daughters, Diane Meade, of New Milford, Terri Lynn Champagne, of Newtown, and Carolyn Ippolito, of Meredith, N.H.; and nine grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Jane Baraga, and a granddaughter, Mary Grace Barago.
Burial will be in Newtown Village Cemetery in the spring.
