Joel Bruzinski of Sherman is spearheading a drive to collect care package items for troops serving in Afghanistan.

Items may be dropped off in Sherman, but Mr. Bruzinski welcomes businesses in other towns in the Greater New Milford area to join the effort.

Goods will be accepted through Memorial Day at Sherman IGA, Sherman Hardware, Sherman Dry Cleaners, Happy Rainbows, Sherman Wine & Spirits and Sherman town hall, all on the Sherman Green.

The Sherman IGA has also agreed to provide items for donors to purchase in the store at special pricing.

Items sought include small, soft packs of flushable wipes, Visine eye drops, no-rub contact lens solution, zinc oxide, Lamisil anti-fungal cream, non-aerosol cans of athlete's foot treatments, Q-tips with a cardboard shaft, the suppository version of Preparation H, feminine hygiene products, Boudreaux's butt-paste (diaper rash cream), Goldbond powder, mole skin blister bandages, unscented and unflavored lip balm, power bars, non-large bags of trail mix and jerky, Fisher Space pens and eyeglass cleaning kits.

Also, eyeglass repair kits, small jewelry screwdriver sets, small folding Allen key sets, small folding Torx bits sets, multi-tools by Gerbet and Leatherman, metal dental picks, canned air, shaving brushes, shop rags, all-cotton rags, spray lube similar to Strike-Hold, Crocks or heavy duty athletic sandals, calf-length socks (black or green, wool or synthetic; no cotton); all-cotton ankle-length sport socks, magazines, decks of cards and travel size board games.

Also, Oakley tactile eyewear or the equivalent, small compact camp stoves, water filtration kids, portable DVD players, iPods, hunting knife sharpening kits and Surefire tactile flashlights.

In addition, bug spray is sought, preferably with Deet.

Bug spray must be unscented.

Skin-so-Soft, Deep Woods and Off are suitable in pump spray bottles.
