Swanson-Horrigan softball proves a hit in Washington

Twenty-eight teams and hundreds of fans frolicked July 11-12 on a beautiful weekend in Washington Depot at the sixth annual Swanson Horrigan Memorial slowpitch softball tournament.

The event is held annually in memory of Tyler Horrigan and brothers Brian and Chris Swanson, student-athletes at Shepaug Valley High School who died in 2002 and 2003.

To the tournament's motto of "For the love of the boys," competition was offered in 'A,' 'B,' coed and fun divisions throughout both days at the field complex adjacent to Washington Primary School.

All the while, participants indulged at a busy concession stand, all in support of the Chris and Brian Swanson Technology Fund and the Tyler Horrigan Scholar-Athlete Fund.

Division winners were Kekumbas in 'A', Dr. Don's in 'B', F.J.M. in coed and Best Sanitation in fun; respective runnersup were the Chemero Group, Affordable Blinds, B & B Masonry and Cook Street Station.
