Holiday events are planned at both the Hodge Library and Minor Memorial Library in Roxbury.

Gift books and other treats will be available for purchase Dec. 3 from 5 to 9 p.m., during and after the Roxbury holiday tree lighting.

Minor Memorial Library on South Street will present a dramatic reading of the Dylan Thomas prose poem “A Child’s Christmas in Wales,” followed by holiday refreshments prepared by library volunteer Renee David Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m.

Douglas Schlicher is known locally for his annual reading of Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” at the Hurd House in Woodbury.

Formerly a professional actor, Schlicher has performed onstage with the New York Shakespeare Festival, the New Jersey Shakespeare Festival, and has performed at Lincoln Center, off-Broadway, and at the Public Theater in New York, as well as in Central Park.

In addition to his stage work, he has appeared in over 400 television and radio commercials and voice-over narrations.

Locally, he has lent his talent to the Gunn Memorial Museum in Washington, where he has narrated exhibit-related videos.
