Minor Memorial Library in Roxbury will present a program that will explore the high cost of prescription drugs Feb. 5 at 5:30 p.m.

Roxbury resident Gary Steinman will briefly discuss the background of drug research and regulation, explain the complex ways that drugs and bodies interact and lead a discussion of how drugs should be used and why they are so costly.

His goals are to promote safer and more effective use of the drugs people have to take, to foster more useful discussions between patient and their doctors about these drugs and to make the information as accessible as possible to the general public.

Gary Steinman has a background in biomedical engineering, consulting with pharmaceutical and medical device industries on design, planning, and research and development.

The library is located on South Street.
