Helen S. Nash, 93, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of New Milford, died unexpectedly Dec. 23, 2010, at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, John W. Nash.

Mrs. Nash was born Jan. 29, 1917, in New York City.

She was a graduate of Russell Sage College and Baypath College and, for many years, performed secretarial work at the newspapers she and her husband owned and published.

She once managed the classified advertising department of The New Milford Times.

Mrs. Nash and her husband moved from New Milford to Westfield, Mass., and, from there, spent increasing amounts of time in Sarasota, before retiring to 3924 Torrey Pines Blvd. in the Country Club of Sarasota.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Claudia Hurley, and her husband, Michael, of Westfield. She was predeceased by a daughter, Suzanne.

She is also survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Nash was a gifted musician and an accomplished organ player. She loved cooking and entertaining.

She supported many wildlife organizations and loved animals, especially her Boston terriers.

Mrs. Nash always brought a sense of humor to everything she did.

A memorial service to celebrate her life is planned today (Friday) at 11:30 a.m. at the Toale Brothers Gulf Gate Chapel, 6903 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.

Memorials may be made to wildlife organizations, the Humane Society or to the charity of one's choice.
